The Casper community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Sammantha Brooks, who died in a tragic accident on Wyoming Highway 487 after her car collided with an elk on July 14.
Sammantha, riding in the front passenger seat, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, while her twin sister Hannah survived thanks to a friend’s quick actions.
Authorities believe speeding and fatigue played roles in the crash, with reports noting Sammantha was not wearing a seatbelt.
Described by her mother Sarah Hardy as a “ray of light,” Sammantha worked at Texas Roadhouse and aspired to become a certified nursing assistant.
The family now faces both emotional and financial hardship, prompting coworker Alicen Outlaw to launch a fundraiser for support.
Sammantha’s loss highlights the need for safe driving on Wyoming’s wildlife-prone roads, as her memory inspires those who knew her to treasure each day.
